Another Life Lost: Minneapolis Teen Gunned Down Outside His Home

On Monday night, a 17-year-old boy was gunned down outside his home on 25th Street East. Despite officers’ desperate attempts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.

Homicide investigators now face the grim task of piecing together what happened, with no arrests and a community left asking why.

“This senseless act of gun violence has destroyed another young life,” said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara. “We need the community’s help to find answers.”

The numbers are sobering. Gun violence is now the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States. Protect Minnesota’s executive director, Maggiy Emery, calls this a uniquely American tragedy.

“530 Minnesotans died from gun violence in 2023. That’s 530 families ripped apart,” Emery said. “This 17-year-old’s death wasn’t just tragic—it was preventable. We can take action. We just haven’t.”

Immediate solutions exist: secure firearm storage, reporting stolen guns, and investing in community-based crisis intervention programs. But until society tackles the deeper systemic causes, young lives will remain in the crosshairs.
