Matthew Huttle, 42, recently pardoned by former President Donald Trump for his role in the January 6 Capitol riot, was fatally shot by an Indiana sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop Sunday.

Police say the incident occurred on State Road 14 when an attempted arrest led to an “altercation,” prompting the deputy to open fire. Huttle, who was armed, died at the scene. Details on the confrontation remain unclear.

Huttle had been arrested for storming the Capitol in 2021 and was pardoned shortly before his death. His uncle, Dale Huttle, who was also involved, previously called himself the “ultimate patriot” and expressed no regrets.

The Indiana State Police are investigating, and the deputy involved has been placed on leave, per standard protocol.
