St. Paul police have determined that an 11-year-old boy who claimed he was shot by an unknown assailant was actually responsible for his own injury.
Officers responded to the 800 block of Third Street East around 6:55 p.m. Thursday after reports that the boy had been shot in the finger. He initially told police he was walking home from a rec center when a stranger fired six shots at him, hitting his finger.
However, investigators quickly suspected the shooting had occurred inside a home and was accidental. Upon further questioning, the boy admitted he had accidentally shot himself.
Police executed a search warrant at the residence and recovered two handguns. The investigation remains ongoing.
