Cucumbers distributed to over two dozen U.S. states and Canadian provinces are under recall after reports of salmonella-related illnesses.

SunFed Produce announced the recall Wednesday, targeting whole fresh cucumbers shipped between October 12 and November 26. These were sold in bulk containers labeled “SunFed” or in plain white boxes and black crates with stickers from grower Agrotato, S.A. de C.V.

Impacted areas include Alaska, California, Texas, New York, Minnesota, and others, along with Canadian provinces like Alberta and Ontario. SunFed warns the cucumbers may have reached other regions as well.

The recall followed an FDA alert linking the products to salmonella cases reported from mid-October through mid-November. SunFed has not disclosed the number of illnesses.

Consumers are urged to discard the cucumbers and sanitize any surfaces they touched. Symptoms of salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, and nausea, with vulnerable groups like children and the elderly at greater risk of severe illness.

“We’re working with authorities and growers to identify the cause,” said SunFed President Craig Slate. “Food safety is our top priority.”
