  • Prepare Your Shelter: Identify a safe location in your home, such as a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor without windows.
  • Emergency Kit: Assemble a kit with essentials like water, non-perishable food, flashlight, batteries, first aid supplies, and necessary medications.

During the Storm:

  • Seek Shelter Immediately: If a tornado warning is issued, move to your predetermined safe location without delay.
  • Protect Yourself: Use heavy blankets, mattresses, or helmets to shield against flying debris.
  • Avoid Windows: Stay away from windows and exterior walls.

If Outdoors or in a Vehicle:

  • Do Not Outrun a Tornado: If driving and unable to reach shelter, abandon your vehicle and seek refuge in a low-lying area, covering your head.
  • Avoid Overpasses: Do not shelter under bridges or overpasses; they can create dangerous wind tunnel effects.
