As of Monday, February 17, 2025, the Twin Cities and surrounding regions in Minnesota are experiencing dangerously low temperatures due to a polar vortex affecting much of the United States.

Current Conditions:

  • Minneapolis/St. Paul: Temperatures have plummeted to -14°F (-26°C) with wind chills making it feel significantly colder.
  • Duluth: Currently at -13°F (-25°C), with similar frigid conditions.
  • Rochester: Experiencing temperatures around -9°F (-23°C).

Forecast Highlights:

  • Monday, February 17: Bitterly cold with plenty of sunshine; extreme cold can be dangerous for outdoor activities. Highs around -3°F (-19°C), lows near -16°F (-27°C).
  • Tuesday, February 18: Continued frigid conditions with highs reaching 2°F (-17°C) and lows dipping to -12°F (-24°C).
  • Wednesday, February 19: Cloudy and bitterly cold, with temperatures ranging from 3°F (-16°C) to -8°F (-22°C).

Severe Weather Alerts:

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning in effect from 9:00 PM CST this evening until 10:00 AM CST Tuesday. Wind chills could reach as low as -42°F (-41°C), posing a significant risk of frostbite on exposed skin within minutes.
