In a move straight out of a political drama, President Joe Biden has pardoned his son, Hunter, wiping away federal convictions for gun charges and tax violations. Apparently, failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes and lying on a gun application is now a family matter, not a legal one.
Biden defended his decision, claiming his son was unfairly targeted for political reasons. Conveniently, he ignored the fact that most Americans can’t just call Dad to get out of a jam. Meanwhile, Republicans and President-elect Donald Trump are predictably losing their minds, calling the pardon a “slap in the face to justice.”
Hunter, ever the reformed man, thanked his father and promised to use his story to help others. Perhaps “How to Dodge Prison 101” will be his next venture. As for Biden, he’s shattered norms with this unprecedented act of presidential family loyalty. Whether it’s justice or just politics, one thing’s clear: the rule of law just got a very awkward family reunion.
