St. Paul police are investigating the city’s first homicide of the year after a woman was fatally stabbed Wednesday afternoon.
Officers responded to a home on the 400 block of Central Avenue West around 3:10 p.m. after a man called 911, reporting that his wife had been killed. Upon arrival, police found the man covered in blood and the woman suffering from a stab wound. She was transported to Regions Hospital, where she later died.
Authorities have taken the man into custody for questioning. Police confirmed that the couple was married and that a baby and another adult were inside the home at the time of the incident.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to confirm the victim’s identity. The investigation remains ongoing.
