St. Paul Schools Hit Homeowners with Jaw-Dropping 7.9% Tax Hike

The St. Paul school board has unanimously approved a 7.9% increase in the district’s property tax levy for 2025, opting for the maximum hike permitted by the state Department of Education. This decision follows recent public hearings where residents expressed concerns over rising taxes in St. Paul. The owner of a median-valued home in the city, assessed at $275,300, can expect an approximate $142 increase in the school district’s portion of their property tax bill, equating to an 11.5% rise. District officials noted that opting for a lower levy could result in reduced state aid in certain funding categories. Board Member Carlo Franco emphasized the district’s commitment to ensuring that increased taxes lead to significant educational outcomes for students.
