Drive-By Killer Sentenced to Life for Fatal Shooting in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS — Justice has been served for the family of Stevi Palacio, the 34-year-old woman gunned down in a drive-by shooting last summer.

Tremaine Bucholz, 27, was sentenced Monday to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years for Palacio’s murder. A jury found him guilty earlier this month of first- and second-degree murder for the ruthless attack on August 9, 2023.

That night, Palacio was shot in the back near Thomas and Oak Park avenues as she tried to flee from a van creeping alongside her. Doorbell footage captured Bucholz firing one initial shot, followed by a barrage of seven more.

Investigators tracked the van to Bucholz’s apartment, where he admitted to knowing both the driver and his victim.

“Stevi should still be with her family,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “While this verdict won’t replace their loss, it ensures accountability.”

For Bucholz, life behind bars now looms—a stark end for a senseless act of violence that shattered a community.
